A Post Office was established July 30, 1900 with David A McHugh as postmaster.
The town formerly known as Gray, located three miles south of the Kansas
border on the southwest corner of the Indian School reserve. It became
a town when the railroad established a stop there. When Middleton Stock
Yards were built the next year it became a cattle shipping point. The
town was platted and a small business district developed, consisting of
stores, a lumber yard, a restaurant, blacksmith shop, and a hotel. The
town held on for two decades, but never grew to be large. Southwest of

was December 20, 1893, population was said to be 2,108. Businesses consist
of Post Office, banks, a refinery, several schools, all the major denominations
churches, two theatres, it’s own light & power company. In the
Weekly Republican Traveler Sept. 21, 1893, the citizens of Kirk voted
to change the name to Santa Fe. Said to be the largest city on the Santa
