Bain
A Post Office was established May 16, 1899 with Richard F Burnett as Postmaster
and discontinued April 30, 1902 with mail to Longwood. A grocery store
located 4 miles south and 1 mile east of Uncas on the farm of Dan Bain.
Around 1900 one of the two brothers opened another store across from the
Longwood store. The brothers took the charter from the Bain Post Office,
changed the document and took it to the new store. The operator of the
Longwood Post Office, not knowing it was a forgery, turned his Post Office
over to the brothers. This Post Office was in operation for about six
months when the Federal government caught up with them.
