The following list is of Post Office, Schools and place names located
in Carlisle Township, Kay County, Oklahoma. Although every effort has
been made to correctly identify and describe all listings on the following
maps, errors can occur; sources can have conflicting information. Sources
include Chronicles of Oklahoma [OHS], Rooted in the Past Growing for the
Future [NCOH], Oklahoma Department of Transportation Maps, court documents
of incorporation, Oklahoma Atlas’ and Gazetteers and Kay County
Newspapers.
*Eddy
A Post Office was established January 3, 1901 with Charles A Spencer as
postmaster and discontinued February 22, 1957. Located on the Frisco railroad
line where it passes into Grant County. Named after railroad builder Ed
Peckham’s son, Ed E. Peckham. The town started when Charles A Spencer
moved his post office from Osborne in Grant county. Business included
two grain elevators, a livery stable, several grocery stores, a restaurant,
two lumber yards, a general store, the Hayes Hotel, a big depot and a
Baptist and Methodist Church. Fire burned out whole sections of Eddy in
1907, 1920 & 1939. Tornadoes demolished much of the town in 1904 and

Osborne
A Post office was established February 6, 1894 with Virgil P Dillingham
as postmaster. Also found that Charles A Spencer was first postmaster.
Name was changed January 3, 1901 to Eddy.
Retta
A Post office was established April 3, 1902, discontinued January 23,
1908. Postmaster was Josiah Bean. Effective February 15, 1908 mail to
Blackwell. Located six miles from Blackwell. Was named after 16 year old
resident, Retta Richmond who later married Harry B Patten. Businesses
consisted of a post office, pool hall, dance hall, boarding house, grocery
store, blacksmith and grain elevator. On 1907 map.
Vilott
A Post Office was established February 2, 1894 with Charles W Vilott as
postmaster. On April 12, 1898 the name was changed to Nardin. Located
west of Blackwell.
