I am hoping you can help me. My grandmother grew up in Kay County, Blackwell, Oklahoma. Her name was Imogene Marie Kotchavar. She was the daughter of Ralph C. Kotchavar and Janie Bell Rhea. She and her brother Ralph C., Jr. were placed in a home (according to stories), after being abandoned by their parents. I am trying to find information on the Blackwell Children's home. I have seen documentation citing the existence of a 1933 census; however, cannot find a copy. My grandmother and her brother would have lived there sometime between 1930 and 1940. In the 1930 census, the children, including a younger brother, Billy, who died shortly after this census, were living with their grandparents. I was hoping to find documentation or records to verify this was the correct home. I'm also hoping to find any kind of documentation showing why they were abandoned or placed in care of the home. This has long been a family mystery as neither my grandmother nor great uncle were old enough to know the true story of their placement or the cause of Billy's death. If there is anyway you can assist me, it would be greatly appreciated.

There evidently was a home here in Blackwell during the 1930's but no information seems to be available. I did find that it was privately owned so have no idea what happened to any of the records.
Sorry I couldn't help with this but I did find that Billy is buried in the Blackwell Cemetery

Hi! I was wondering if, you could tell where, I can obits in Kay County. Particular in Blackwell. I'm looking for obits on George Kite and his wife Mary Elizabeth and George's father Robert W. Kite. I know Robert W. Kite died in 9-20-1910. The census on George ends in the 1920, he is not listed on the 1930. His wife Mary is listed on the 1930 with her daughter Velma Kite and her other daughter Nina Kite who married a Fred Erdwin. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million for your time.

I am looking for the obituary for Grace O Keller. She was born in 12 November 1893, in Kansas and her last knnown address was in Blackwell, Kay County, Oklahoma. She died on February 25, 1989. I have looked on the inter-net and have been unable to fine the obituaries for Kay County for the year 1989.

I am hoping that you have access to these obituaries. Have found out the following for you:

Grace's 1st husband Fred Williamson b. 1883 d. 1916 and is buried in the Newkirk Cemetery.
Charles W. Biddle b. June 17, 1865 d. Sept 18, 1913 w. Daisy
Daisy Biddle b. Nov.23, 1873 d. March 12, 1934 h. Charles W.
Both are buried in the Newkirk Cemetery. Kay Co. Cemetery Book p.220
Irma May Schneider (notice spelling) b. March 29, 1898 d. Jan.21, 1923 buried in the Newkirk Cemetery. More than likely they called her May. So think this is one & the same person.
There are 3 more Schneider's listed one after the other. Think they are all related.
Mable E. Schneider b. July 29, 1872 d. Nov. 8, 1952
John W. Schneider b. Nov. 8, 1871 d. May 11, 1943
Vernon Schneider b. July 24, 1898 d. Apr. 2, 1921
Have a feeling (according to their b. dates) John & Mable were married.
And Vernon may have been Irma May's husband.
Also, a possibility, John & Mable were Vernon's parents.
All are buried in Newkirk Cemetery. From the Kay Co. Cemetery Book p. 277

got your e-mail and was delighted with what you sent. I had Charles and Daisy's birth dates but not their death dates.
I was also very happy to get Fred Williamson's birth year.
I was happy to get the information on Irma May Biddle Schneider. I do believe the Irma May Schneider that you sent me the information on is my May E. Biddle as she was also born in March 1898. If Vernon was her husband, they both died very young. Vernon was only 22 when he died in 1921 and Irma May was 24 when she died in 1923. If you happen to find any more on them, please let me know.

I would love to have any information on my biological maternal grandfather, Ernest Kohler and/or of his family members. My mother, Patsy Ruth, was born to Ernest Kohler and my grandmother, Ruth Morrison Overton July 11, 1928, in Ponca City. My grandmother, I believe was born around 1908 - 1910. I'm assuming Ernest was somewhere near her age, but I don't know exactly. I do know he died young - about 35. I assume, but don't know for sure, that he and my grandmother were married.

Any information about my grandmother's Oklahoma family would be welcomed also. As I mentioned, her name was Ruth Morrison Overton. I know her mother's married name was Minnie Pearl Overton, and am assuming her maiden name was Morrison. I only knew of my great grandfather (Overton) as being called "Daddy Bob", but don't know his first name. I know they had a farm in/around Ponca City. I guess they would have been born sometime between 1870 and 1890

James age 19 b:Oklahoma musician at radio station
Lois age 12 b: Oklahoma
Kohler, Patsy R. age 1 1/2 b:Oklahoma (It list that both of Patsy's parents were born in Oklahoma, but I cannot find any information on him.)
Address looks to be 1015 S. Sixth
There are several Kohlers in the Cemetery Records, but not Ernest.

my name is sandra kimbell and im trying to link my kimbell's/kimbrell's/ kimble/kimel's to Oklahoma around blackwell. i thought i had connected my GGGrandfather John Willaim kimbell(and varients) to basil kimbell but have since been informed that it might not be the right john kimbrell according to info i have or found my GGGrandfather died in 1914 in Arkansas but according to my GGGrandmothers obit some years later it said he died in 1897 near blackwell Oklahoma.. here is the info i have

The son of Isaac & Matilda Kirkpatrick, he was born Sept 14, 1893 near White City, Kans…During WWI he served overseas in the Army from May 8, 1918 – May 12, 1919…He married Ella Mae Barker on March 30, 1921 in Winfield, Kans. She died May 29, 1933.
On July 11, 1945 he married Evelyn Hunter in Newkirk, They made their home in Albuquerque, NM…He is survived by his wife, Evelyn…five daughters…(Edna)…Mrs Hugh (Marguerite) Geiger…(Terri)…(Anne)…two brothers Robert…Ponca City & Wolford…Prineville, Ore; 16 grandchildren & 18 greatgrandchildren. I am trying very hard to find a death date and/or burial place for Jacob
Casper Kemp. Jacob Kemp was noted as being from Blackwell Oklahoma in
his brother Ollie Kemp's obituary from July of 1906 as having attended
his funeral in Weir, Kansas. Info from the July 6, 1906 issue of the
Weir City Journal.

Jacob Kemp was born July 21, 1858 in Albany New York. He married Ida
Mae Welker.

Jacob Kemp is incorrectly listed as Jacob Kump in the 1900 Kay County,
OK Longwood twp census. (Heritage Quest)

Jacob Kemp's wife Ida M. Kemp, is listed as being widowed, age 50, in
the 1910 Smith Co. Kansas, Oak twp, census. (Heritage Quest)

My conclusion from these two census records and his brother's obit is
that Jacob died between 1906 and 1910 and is most likely buried either
in Kay County, Oklahoma or possibly in Smith County, Kansas. Depends on
if the family moved to Smith County Kansas before or after Jacob died.

Are you aware of a book titled Tombstone Inscriptions of Kay County
Okahoma and do you have access to one? If you could look in this book
for Jacob Kemp I would be most grateful. Perhaps you have other death
and/or burial/cemetery/funeral home records for Kay County that you
might be able to find information regarding Jacob.

Just last week I was in Newkirk, OK. along with my husband and my mother, we went to the Newkirk Cemetery to see my g.grandmother Delilah J. Kester 1866-1935 Order of Eastern Star grave which we did but the most interesting circumstance came about, I had a copy of the Cemetery Inscriptions of Kay County, OK. by the Pioneer Genealogical Society, Ponca City, OK. it listed my g.grandfather Stephen Kester, May 14, 1868-May 27, 1941, agd 73 yr. 13 da. so SOMEONE saw that stone when they canvassed the cemetery, but there is NO STONE there, I asked the funeral home there in Newkirk, they suggested that the stone might have been misplaced, so my entourage walked the entire cemetery to no avail. I went there to put a stone on his grave, but now I am interested to what happened to the original stone-I did check the courthouse and they were both listed as owning the gravesites. I would appreciate any information related to the above or any info about Delilah and/or Stephen. Thank you.
