PONCA CITY FIRE Ponca
City had her first serious fire Wednesday morning of this week. From reports
from different sources we learn that the fire originated in M. J. Rogers
meat market, at about 4 o’clock in the morning and soon spread to
the adjoining buildings. The entire block was destroyed, and it took hard
fighting to save the adjacent blocks, and the block across the street
on the south. The loss is estimated at from $50,000 to $100,000, and the
property was only fairly well insured. The Arkansas City Traveler prints
the following as the list of buildings burned: L. C. Adams general store;
Lee Herman, saloon; M. J. Rogers, meat market; Souligny & Brodboil,
real estate; Seybold Bros. boots and shoes; N. T. Hampton, notion store;
Saddle Rock Café; Fowler & Gott, hardware; F. W. Gray, grocery
and general stock; Miss Taylor, milliner; Cragin’s grocery store;
Dunham Bros. jewelry; R. E. Morrison, drug store and W. D. McKenzie, saloon.
It is a severe blow to our neighboring city, and we heartily sympathize
with them in their misfortune, but we believe, that with their accustomed
energy, they will rebuild and be all the more substantial for the purging. |
