YOURT – Adam Yourt was born in Miami county, Ohio, in the year 1829, and in 1864 was united in marriage with Jurisia Deweere of the same place. Some eighteen months after their marriage they removed to Fountain county, Indiana, and resided there for six years, they again moved to Ohio to spend the remaining years that his father should live with him; then, after his father’s death they came to Kansas in the year of 1878 and located in Bolton township, Cowley county, and lived there until March 14, 1893, when the wife and mother was taken away, and afterwards he moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he remained six years, then moved to Woods county, near Waynoka, were he remained most of his time until his death Saturday night at 11 o’clock, May 5, 1906. To their union were born four children – Mrs. Forest McMillin of Silverdale, Kansas; John W. Yourt of Blackwell, Okla.; Mrs. Grace Varner of Waynoka, Okla.; and Mrs. Bessie Trimble of Independence, Kans. Mr. Yourt was a loving husband and a kind father, and has gone to join the mother. He was a good neighbor and a good Christian man. His remains were buried in Mercer cemetery at Arkansas City, Kansas. |
