S. Whittenberg
Wilbert S. Whittenberg,
son of Felix and Nancy Whittenberg, was born Jan. 30th, 1833, in Polk
county, Mo. In 1855 he was married to Lucinda Coalson. Eight children
were born to them, of whom two daughters and three sons survive to mourn
his death. Four of them live in Blackwell, and one daughter in Colorado.
Mr. Whittenberg moved to Nebraska in 1876 and lived there until four years
ago when he came to Blackwell. Since coming to our city he has been an
invalid, confined to his chair, caused by a stroke of paralysis which
he received at that time. He died Feb 2, 1904 aged 66 years and 3 days.
Mr. Whittenberg was a faithful citizen and an old soldier, having served
three years in the Union army. When 16 years of age he was converted and
united with the Methodist church, in whose membership he died. His last
words and closing testimony were uttered in the psalmists words, “Bless
the Lord.” The funeral was conducted by Rev. Barrier at the Presbyterian
church at two 2 o’clock, Wednesday, Feb 3rd.
