Cedar Point, Kan.
– Howard S. Wealand, former resident of Ponca City, died Wednesday,
April 18, 2001, in the Peabody Community Living Center in Peabody, Kan.
He was 87.
The funeral was held in the Cedar Point Community Church at Cedar Point,
Kan., with the Rev. Larry Timm officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Point
Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in
Cottonwood Falls, Kan.
Howard S. Wealand was born Dec. 13, 1913, in Ponca City, the son of Arthur
A. and Alice J. Sutherland Wealand. He married Helen G. Crofoot on June
24, 1939, in Ponca City. He was a self-employed rancher at Cedar Point,
Kan., for most of his life. He was a member of the Cedar Point Community
Church and the Florence Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dale Wealand of Elmdale, Kan.,
Kenn Wealand of Cedar Point and Jay Wealand of Ivoryton, Conn.; two daughters,
Deanna Bruce of Wichita, Kan., and Christa Hinnen of Potwin, Kan.; a sister,
Betty Gwartney of Omaha, Neb.; a half sister, Aline Rhodes of Aurora,
Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Wealand and Kenneth Wealand,
and a sister, Marjorie Phillips.
