Edith Wealand, lifelong
resident of Ponca City, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Shawn Manor
Nursing Home. She was 88 years of age.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Northeast Baptist
Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Nigh presiding. Burial will be at the Longwood
Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Edith Wealand was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Ponca City, the daughter of J.
J. Klopp and Etta Shinn Klopp. She was a graduate of Ponca City High School.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Garnet Wealand on Feb. 9, 1934, at
Ponca City where the couple established their lifelong home. She was a
member of Northeast Baptist Church, an avid reader and fan of the Atlanta
Braves baseball team. She also enjoyed cooking, canning and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Ernestine Copelin and husband John of
Lexington, Neb., and Ms. Colleen Cherry of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren,
Larry Copelin of Lexington, Neb., Kay Copelin Krauleidis and husband Gerald
of Ponca City, Gayla Copelin Megason and husband Bill of Olathe, Kan.,
Jay Copelin and wife Jill of Newkirk, Jack Cherry and wife Caroline of
Oklahoma City and Jill Cherry Smith of Oklahoma City; seven great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd, on May 2,
1992; one sister, Inez Crooks, and two brothers, Edgar Klopp and Earnest
“Jack” Klopp.
Casket bearers will be Jack Cherry, Jay Copelin, Larry Copelin, Gerald
Krauleidis, Bill Megason and Darryl Klopp.
