Pioneer, Dies; Services Set

Wealand, 65, well-known Ponca City pioneer, died suddenly at Prairie Chapel
church Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack.
Wealand, who has been in ill health for the past several years, had returned
a week ago from a hospital in Wichita, apparently in better health. He
died Sunday morning while attending church services.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Prairie Chapel church
with the Rev. William Steumky officiating. The Trout funeral home is in
charge of the body. Burial will be in the local I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Wealand, who made the run in 1893 with his parents, settled northeast
of the city and had lived there all his life. He was engaged in farming
before his illness.
Born Jan. 10, 1882, in Marion county, Kan., he was marred May 24, 1911,
in Ponca City.
Survivors include the wife; three sons, Floyd C. of Ponca City, Howard
S. of Cedar Point, Kan., and J. Kenneth of Waco, Texas; three daughters,
Mrs. John Rhodes of Wichita, Mrs. Lloyd Gwartney of Clements, Kan., and
Mrs. Jack Boyer of Ponca City; two sisters, Mrs. John Martin of Rigby,
Idaho, and Mrs. Freeman Burkman of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister-in-law,
Mrs. Frank Wealand of Springdale, Ark.; a brother, John W. of Bentonville,
Ark.; two nephews, Leo Willison of Ponca City and Dale Willison of Ohio;
and six grandchildren.
