DEATH OF A PIONEER

C. A. Ward, manager of the Blackwell Lumber Co.’s business in this city, has returned with his wife from lamont, where they went to attend he funeral of Ward’s father, Jas. F. Ward, who died from a stroke of paralysis on Nov. 1 and was buried on the following day. Th services were held in the Pentecostal church at lamont, by Rev. A. N. Jackson of Pond Creek. Mr. Ward was 61 years old and left a wife and seven children, five boys and two girls. He was one of the pioneers of that section , having participated in the run at the opening of the Cheroee strip and located the claim near Lamont upon which he and his family has since resided.
Last Sunday mornin upon the threshold of another day, the angel on the lord appeared with the scroll of Death, and his name was written there. James F. Ward was one of the old residents of this community, honest, conscientious Christian, who did his duty as he saw it, without complaint. He had been in poor health for several years, but carried his yoke with Christian fortitude, and his demise while not unexpected, was a sad blow to his family and many friends. James Franklin Ward was born in Franklin Co., North Carolina, July 31, 1847, and departed this life Nov. 1, 1908. In 1857, with his parents, he moved to Missouri. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Emma Jane Douglas, who died in Jan. 10, 1884. Sept. 21, 1884, he was united in marriage to RuAmy Jane Hart, and moved to Kansas in Feburary, 1884. At the opening of the strip, he with his family, moved to Oklahoma, where he has since resided. He leaves to mourn his departure, a wife, one son Troy, and two daughters, Mrs. Katie Allen, by his first wife, and four sons, Claude, Ernest, Arthur and Raymond by his present wife. The family has the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavment. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the F. B. H. church, of which denomination was a member, Rev. Jackson officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery west of town.-Lamont News.
