Rheba
Vedder
On the
morning of December 6th Rheba, the elder of the two children of Mr. And
Mrs. Tom A. Vedder of this city, peacefully passed away and owing to the
diphtheritic nature of her disease was laid to rest at three o’clock
on the afternoon of the same day.
The circumstances were peculiarly sad do that the family
was necessarily denied that sympathy of friends which comes from loving
ministrations on the part of outsiders at such a time. Every precaution
was taken to prevent the spread of the disease and with good effect too
as not another case has been reported in the town.
Rheba was a child of more than ordinary endowment. Her sweetness of disposition,
unquestioning obedience and faithfulness in duty endeared her alike in
the home, the school, and the church. Among her companions she was a general
favorite and on her part she seemed to hold all as deserving of a high
place in her affections.
At the time of her death she was but a little over thirteen years of age
having been born Oct. 10, 1887, near Haddam, Kansas.
The teachers and pupils of the public school sent two beautiful floral
designs to be placed on her casket during the interment. One of these
was a harp with four strings one of which was broken, symbolizing the
severed cord in this family of four. The children of the Presbyterian
Church have also prepared a loving memorial as a tribute of their affection.
The family has the universal sympathy of the community.
