OBITUARY

The funeral of Mrs. John R. Tate, occurred from the family residence last Friday afternoon at 3:30, conducted by Rev. Nickle, of the Methodist church, and was attended by a large concourse of the friends of the deceased and family. The floral offerings were numerous and handsome, and in a measure attested the high esteem in which Mrs. Tate was held by the people of the community. The interment was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery south of the city.
Sarah A. Dyer, was born in Tennessee, Oct 6th, 1847, and was united in marriage to John R. Tate, Nov. 5th, 1867, in the same state. They came to Cowley county, Kansas in 1878, and took a preemption near Burden, in that county, moving to this county at about the time of the opening. Ten children were born to Mrs. Tate, all of whom with the husband survive to bless and revere her memory, and all were present at the funeral. Miss Norah, Mrs. J. T. Mills, Misses Bertha and Lillie and Milton and Verne of this city; Mrs. J. M. Blood of Billings, Okla. Mrs. Geo Glover, of Nardin, Okla.; and Ed H. and Walter, of Roosevelt Okla.
Mr. And Mrs. Joel Dyer, of Burden Kansas, father and mother of Mrs. Tate, Mrs. Julia West, her sister also of Burden; Miss Lizzie Dyer of Hobart, Mrs. Baum, of Billings, nieces, also attended the services. Mrs. Tate had not been real strong for some time, and bronchial and lung trouble followed a severe attack of malarial fever, and she had been confined to the house for two months prior to her death. She was a member of the Methodist church and a faithful follower of the precepts of her Savior. She was a loving wife and mother, a most exemplary neighbor, and a woman, who leaves the world better off for having blessed it with her presence. The loss to the family is irreparable, and upon them the blow falls the heaviest. The aged father and mother, the sister and other relatives are also bereft and many warm friends keenly feel the loss of a kind friend and generous neighbor. The entire community sympathize with the family in their bereavement, and are joined by many friends in different parts of the county and Kansas, where she so long lived. Hers was a exemplary life, and another mother in Israel, has been called home.
