Dorothy R. Cooper Stegmann

Dorothy R. Cooper Stegmann, resident of Wellston, Okla., died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at her grandson's home. She was 84.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at Newkirk Cemetery, Newkirk, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Dorothy was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Watonga, Okla., the daughter of Del David Cooper and Hazel C. Gibson Cooper. She grew up and attended schools in Watonga. During World War II, she worked for Beechcraft in Wichita, Kan., and then for McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis, Mo. She moved with her family to Tulsa in 1959. After her son graduated from high school and joined the military in 1966, she moved to California.

Dorothy lived the next 30 years in California, Nevada and Oklahoma, during which time she worked numerous places including 10 years as a secretary at Tinker Air Force Base. She retired from civil service in the late 1980's and returned to California. Dorothy came back to Oklahoma in the late 1990's and lived in Del City. She has been cared for by her grandson, his wife, and her niece, Jodie Everhart, at their home in Wellston for the past two years.

She is survived by her son, George Stegmann and his wife, Terri, of Del City; three grandchildren, David Stegmann and his wife, Tara, Lisa Day and Libby Cox; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Maxine Morrow of Sebastian, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Del and Hazel Cooper; three sisters, Myra Randol, Leona Emerson, and Hazel Ernest; and two brothers, William G. Cooper and Leon Cooper.
