Dora Belle Maranville
Steffey, of Ponca city, died Tuesday evening, Oct 10, 1989, at the Presbyterian
Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 68 years old.
Born in Enid on Dec 25, 1920, she was the daughter of Perry George and
Carie Honor Wilson Maranville. She grew up in Enid and received her education
there, graduating from Phillips University in 1943 with a BS degree in
education and home economics.
She and Oran Dean Steffey were married in Cushing on Oct 16, 1943 at the
home of her parents. Mrs Steffey and her family moved to Ponca City in
the fall of 1956, when her husband began working for Conoco.
She taught school at Marland High School for 1962 until her retirement
in 1984. A science teacher, she had been class sponsor of several classes
over the years and had been selected Noble County Teacher of the Year
a few years prior to her retirement.
An active member at Northeast Baptist Church. Mrs Steffey served on several
committees and taught third and fourth grade Sunday School. Her hobbies
were genealogy, flower gardens and plants, music and her grandchildren.
She was a member and past-president of the Pioneer Genealogical Society
and had also served as editor of the newsletter.
Ssurviving are her husband, Dr Oran Dean Steffey, of the home; a brother,
Frank L Maranville of Shelton, Wash; a son, Onis Gene Steffey of Fort
Worth, Texas; a daughter, Pamela Sue Utsler of Ponca City; a step-sister,
Cynthia Mauldin of Maryville, Tenn; seven grandchildren; one gread-grandchild
and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen T Maranville
Carach; and her stepmother Ida Maranville.
Casketbearers are Stan Hinshaw, Duane Gregory, David Mallory, John Jenkins,
Martin Trenary and Dennis Dye.
Memorial contribution may be made in her name either to the Northeast
Baptist Church, or to the Leukemia Foundation, 5929 North May, Oklahoma
City, OK 73125
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Steffey home.
The services were Thursday Oct 12, 1989.
