Lloyd
Starnes, longtime Ponca City resident, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at his
home. He was 92. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28,
at First Christian Church with the Rev. Larry B. Metzger officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of the
Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Lloyd Starnes, the son of James
Richard and Mary Sanders Starnes, was born on Aug. 9, 1914, in Davis,
Okla. On July 6, 1944, Lloyd married Ruth Elaine Harritt in the First
Presbyterian Church of Watonga. Mr. Starnes was in the service with
the Merchant Marines during WWII. After tours in the South Pacific and
Northern Russia he was stationed in Portland, Ore. The couple made their
home in Portland during the last few months of the war. In 1951, the
couple moved to Ponca City where Lloyd was employed with Braker Electric
and later with Welborn Electric. He retired in 1979. Lloyd enjoyed
golf. For more than 50 years he was a member of the First Christian Church
of Ponca City, where he served in many capacities. Lloyd had also been a
driver for Meals on Wheels, a member of the board for the Ponca City
chapter of the Habitat for Humanity and had been active in the
construction of local Habitat houses. He is survived by his wife,
Ruth, of the home; one sister, Thelma Lowther of Calif.; sister-in-law,
Mary Mertz of San Antonio, Texas and niece, Glenda Flury of Guthrie. Lloyd
is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents; siblings, William, Clarence, Robert, Minnie,
Martha and Callie; and two infant daughters. Memorial contributions
