Smith
William Smith, an early settler in Kay county died at his home in Garfield
county Saturday, Dec. 24, 1904, after a short illness. The body was brought
to this county and buried by that of his wife in Round Grove township
Monday, Dec., 26th.
Mr. Smith was born in Jasmine county, Kentucky, Nov. 22, 1835, and moved
with his parents to Buchanan county, Missouri, in 1845 where he resided
until a few years before the opening of the Strip, when he came to Southern
Kansas to await the opening. He secured a fine claim in Roundgrove Township
where he lived until about four years ago when he sold out and bought
320 acres of land in Garfield county.
Mr. Smith leaves two daughters, Mrs. Etta Smith, and Mrs. Mary Snyder,
both of whom he lived and William Smith, who lives in the Creek country.
