FATAL ACCIDENT

Two Men Killed, a Bridge Over Duck Creek Collapsing.
Saturday’s Daily

A fatal accident by which two men lost their lives, happened at the new arched stone bridge across Duck Creek, six miles east of Blackwell between 8 and 9 o’clock this morning. The bridge, which was twenty feet long, had just been completed, and the supports were being withdrawn which held it up during its construction. As soon as the timbers were taken away, the entire structure collapsed and fell into the stream below. At the time of the accident, two men, one named O. S. Strickland, who was the contractor, and the other Mr. Shaw a deaf and dumb man, were under the bridge and the immense stone blocks, of which it was built, fell on them crushing them to death instantly.
Mr. Hughes, who lives near the spot, saw the dead bodies of the two unfortunate men. Both were married men. Strickland lived at Kildare. The residence of Shaw could not be ascertained. At the time of writing, no other facts were obtainable.
