Phillip Dale Scott

Phillip Dale Scott, longtime Newkirk area rancher and farmer, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 15, 2006, in the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 77.

The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in the First Presbyterian Church of Newkirk with the Rev. Kerney Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service. Mr. Scott will lie in state at the funeral home Friday until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Memorial funds have been established with the First Presbyterian Church and Faith Hospice of Blackwell. Contributions may be made in Mr. Scott's memory through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468.

Phillip Dale Scott was born Nov. 30, 1928, near Newkirk. He grew up on the farm and attended OK Rural School and Newkirk High School where he graduated with the class of 1946. He then attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater. He graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry.

After graduation he returned to Newkirk and the farm where he grew up. He also worked part time as soil tester for the County Extension Office in Kay County.

On Sept. 7, 1952, Phillip and Emilie B. Mrazek were married in the Middleton Presbyterian Church. They made their home on the farm, remaining there for their entire married life.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church, Phillip had served on the church board and as an elder. He enjoyed his farm/ranch operation and his cattle. He also took great pleasure in his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Emilie; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. "Bob" and Gwen Scott, Curtis D. Scott and Gary W. and Tonya Scott, all of Newkirk; one brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Betty Scott of Newkirk; a half brother, Ernest Barnes of Elkhart, Kan.; two half sisters, Barbara Crosley of Elkhart and Connie Craig of Greeley, Colo.; and five grandchildren, Caila, Allison, Malory, Amber and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Scott; his parents, his stepmother, LaVada Scott; and a half brother, Freddie Barnes.
