GONE TO REST

Again death has visited the home of Mr. And Mrs. Ed. Sallee, and taken this time their daughter Gertie. She was taken sick on the 13th of March, 1902, and after over six months of suffering fell a sleep in Jesus, Thursday morning, September 25, 1902. During her illness she spoke of dying and said that she was willing and ready to go; that she wanted to die so that she could be with her sister Lelia who passed away four months ago.
Miss Gertie was born in Cass county Mo., Jan.26, 1886, and came to Blackwell about a year ago. Although her stay with us was short, she had made many friends who mourn her death. Though we must remember that our loss is her gain and while we mourn for her she is happy with her loved ones who have gone before her.
The funeral services conducted by Rev. Nickie, were held at the Methodist church in Blackwell and were attended by many friends who followed her to her last resting place. She was laid to rest in the Blackwell cemetery by the side of her sister Lelia.” [Block 17 Lot 7 Space 5]
