C.A. Poulter, known as "Cap" to his friends, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006. He was 77.

C.A., a longtime Ponca City resident, passed away at his home east of the city. His wife, Sandra, was at his side.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Eastern Heights Christian Church. A Masonic and a military graveside service will be held after at Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. There will be a family visitation Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

C.A. was born on April 7, 1929, to Wilson and Ruby Odom Poulter in Ada. He was the oldest of three sons. C.A. was educated in Wichita Falls, Texas. He attended Wesleyan Methodist College and Academy at Miltonville, Kan. In 1947 C.A. joined the Armed Forces serving as a hull maintenance technician first class in the United States Navy. He was stationed aboard cruisers, destroyers and oilers in the Mediterranean Sea. C.A. served in the Naval Reserve for 30 years. He returned to Wichita Falls, Texas, and worked a short time for Panhandle Steel.

In 1952, C.A. went to work for Continental Oil Company in Ponca City. He worked in Tour Aide, mailing and stationery, and as senior operator in the computer department, retiring in 1992. After retiring from Conoco, C.A. worked for Parker Pest Control, Lowe's, Ponca City Country Club, and Landers-Musgrove Oil. One of his favorite positions was playing Santa Claus for several nursing homes across Oklahoma. Early in his career, he also jockeyed for Shultz's out of Marland. He rode in races Oklahoma, Nebraska, West Virginia, and Missouri.

He married Sandra Jo Swabb on Dec. 31, 1953. They were married at the Presbyterian Church in Newkirk. They celebrated 50 years of marriage two and a half years ago. Three children were born to this union: Carrie, Chuck, and Pam. C.A. served faithfully at Eastern Heights Christian Church. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge 83, Ponca City, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Order of the Eastern Star, Franchon Chapter 53, Ponca City.

Survivors are his wife, Sandra; daughter, Carrie Helton and her husband Darrel of Stringtown; son, Chuck Poulter of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Pam Lee and husband Jerry of Ponca City; brother, Harold Poulter and wife Sue of Seminole; brother-in-law, C.M. Swabb and wife May of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Jim Swabb and wife Jo of Brainerd, Minn.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

C.A. was a very loving husband and father. He served his community in many ways, and he will be greatly missed by all.
