Marjorie Phillips

Marjorie “Gram” Phillips, lifelong Ponca City resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Valley Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. She was 72.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Bredesen, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Marjorie was born at the family home in Ponca City on Jan. 18, 1928. She was the daughter of Allen and Alice (Sutherland) Wealand. She grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1945. While growing up, she was a member of the Prairie Chapel Church, west of Ponca City.
Marjorie was employed with Ponca Floral for over 20 years. She was also a longtime member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. When her children were young, her home was the gathering place for her children and their friends, Through the years, she became a second mother to many of her children’s friends. In her later years, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, visiting with friends and her church. In September of 1999 she moved to Post Falls, Idaho, to be closer to family.
Surviving are two sons, David A. Boyer and his wife Tessa of Post Falls, Idaho, and Dennis R. Boyer of Ponca City; one daughter Debbie Collins of Graham, Wash.; one stepson, Norman Phillips of Bentonville, Ark.; one brother, Howard Wealand of Cedar Point, Kan.; two sisters, Betty Gwartney of Omaha, Neb., and Aline Rhodes of Littleton, Colo.; ten grandchildren, Teri Kirby, David T. Boyer, Justin Boyer, Melissa Bosoini, Eric Collins, Amy Boyer, Tamara Boyer, Susan Collins, Alan Phillips and Mike Phillips; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Kirby, Joshua Kirby, Kelly Phillips, Trinity Fryar, Caige Bosoini, and Bethany Bosoini.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Al” Phillips on May 5, 1989; one son, Mark Boyer; two brothers, Lloyd Wealand and Kenneth Wealand, and her beloved cairn terrier Nikki.
Casket bearers will be David Boyer, Justin Boyer, Alan Phillips, Steven Boyer Frankie McDaniels, and Robert Goldsmith. Honorary bearers will be Mike Phillips, Eric Collins and Clyde Robins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Breast Cancer and Diabetes Research, 825 NE 13th St., Oklahoma City, Okla. 73104.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. Friday.
