Died, April 20, 1905, James Pettit, aged 57 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was born in Cambridge County, England, and came to America with his parents when he was four years old. He lived in New York state seven years and went from there to Illinois, where he resided about eighteen years. He then moved to Kansas where he lived for twenty-four years. The remaining years of his life were spent on the farm five miles east of Billings, Oklahoma. He was married in 1873 at Mt. Carroll, Illinois, to Miss Sarah Todd, from which union there were two children, a son and a daughter, who at present reside in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Mr. Pettit was a citizen of sterling qualities, a kind and amiable disposition and was respected and held in high esteem by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his loss his son, William and daughter, Elizabeth. He also leaves four brothers, Thomas, Nathan and William, who live near Tonkawa, and Daniel, who lives at Delavan, Minnesota; and three sisters, Mrs. Theo. Adriance of Tonkawa; Mrs. Rebecca Prescott of Chadwick, Illinois, and Mrs. Elizabeth Griffin of Sabetha, Kansas.
Mr. Pettit will be laid to rest today (Saturday) by the side of his father and mother in the Sabetha, Kansas, cemetery.
