Janet Darline Pappan

NEWKIRK — Janet Darline Pappan, longtime Ponca City resident, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy, courageous battle with her illness Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at her rural Ponca City home. She was 68.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 in the First Methodist Church of Newkirk with the Rev. John Tramel, minister of the First Baptist Church of Newkirk officiating. Burial followed in Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial funds have been established with Faith Hospice of Blackwell and the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Pappan's memory to either through Eastman National Bank, P.O. Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468.

Janet Darline Pappan was born Dec. 2, 1937 in Newkirk, the daughter of James Elmer and Gladys Lourine (McCall) Jenkins. She grew up in Newkirk and attended Newkirk schools. After finishing her education she was employed in the Newkirk Café.

On June 13, 1959 Janet and Bruce W. Pappan were married in Newkirk and established their first home there. In 1967 they moved to Billings, Mont., and she was employed there as a seamstress for Ailene's Ladies Apparel in Billings. In 1974 they moved to Ponca City where they have since resided. She was employed at Wick's Lumber, now Hughes in Ponca City for a time. Later she was employed at Brandt's Hardware where she held most positions. She retired in 1987 due to ill health after 11 years with the company.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newkirk and was active in Women of the Moose. She was also a member of the 31 Club. Her special interests and hobbies included golfing, traveling and camping, cooking on Sunday for family and friends, playing cards games and Dominoes.

Janet is survived by her husband Bruce; a son, Todd Wade Pappan of Ponca City; a daughter and son-in-law, Darla Kay and Joe Hollingsworth of Ponca City; one brother, Jerold Jenkins of Newkirk; three sisters, Betty Rademacher and Dorothy Pappan, both of Arkansas City and Freda Fast of Arlington, Tex.; three grandchildren, Daak Cole Love, Tyler Wade Pappan and Hailey Cheyenne Pappan; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Those serving as casket bearers were Frank Swope Jr., Jake Helms, Donnie Helms, Lonnie Massey, Reggie Sargent and Mark Russell. Honorary bearers were the 31 Club, Bill Hill, Ken and Pauline Miles and Larry and Linda Brandt.
