Neal Norman North
Neal Norman North, resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Integris Baptist Medical Center. He was 67.
Neal was born on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1942, to the late Norman H. North and the late Ona Cales North in Longview, Wash. Neal graduated from Ponca City High School in 1960. He then obtained his B.S. degree in banking and finance from Oklahoma State University, where he was active in the Lambda Chi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from June 1967 to June 1968 as a captain in the Medical Service Corps. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. Upon return to the United States, he joined the Army Reserve and served his country until 1979.
Neal married Becky Pouland North on May 27, 1983, in Ponca City. He was involved in farming and ranching in his early years with his father. Neal later worked as an independent insurance agent.
Neal enjoyed fishing, traveling, genealogy, spending time with his family, Oklahoma Sooner athletics and Arkansas Razorback athletics. He was an avid hunter as a young man.
He is survived by his wife, Becky of the home; daughter, Audra North Brown and husband Duane of Oklahoma City; son, Grant Pouland and wife Melanie of Ponca City; daughter, Lynn Pouland Swenson and husband Chris of Ponca City. Grandchildren are Britt and Madison Brown of Oklahoma City, Garrett and Karsen Pouland of Ponca City, and Jacob, Jack and Jimmy Swenson of Ponca City.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Ona North.
Casket bearers will be Grant Pouland, Duane Brown, Chris Swenson, Stewart Cales, Justin Cales and Chuck Webb.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
