No Knife, an old Ponca brave, died at his home over on the Bois-de-arc on Nov. 28th, and was buried in the Ponca cemetery on the 29th. No Knife was an old man, was a noted brave in his day, and fought against the Sioux Indians. In keeping with the custom of the tribe in the early days, No Knife requested that after be was dead his pet pony be killed, that he may receive him at the happy hunting ground. The present generation of the Ponca Indians have so far advanced from ancient custom that the request was not granted and No Knife died with despair written on his face. Strange as it may seem, on the way to the burying ground the pet pony dropped dead in the harness, thus the wish of the old brave was fulfilled. - Ponca Courier
