McGrew
Reuben McGrew died
May 22 at McAfee Living Center at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home. He was
96. His residence was 824 W. College.
His funeral is scheduled for 2p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist
Church, Rev. Randy Hodgson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in
the Blackwell IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Roberts and Sons Funeral
Home.
Pall bearers will be Harold Weigle, Jim Galloway, Tom Hall, Dale Wooderson,
John Dale and Dolton Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Barr
and Bill Brewer.
Mr. McGrew was born July 17, 1894 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of John
and Elizabeth (Wright) McGrew.
He was a retired farmer and painter and member of the First United Methodist
Church in Blackwell.
He came to Blackwell with his parents when he was 7. They settled on a
farm west of town.
He grew up on the farm and attended Bethel, Lone Tree and Cooper schools.
He married Maree Morrison, Aug. 4, 1923 in Blackwell, settling on the
farm west of here.
They moved into Blackwell in 1947 when he began work as a painting contractor.
His wife died in 1963
He married Lura Juanita Goodier, Aug. 8, 1966, in Blackwell and continued
to make his home here.
He retired as a painting contractor in 1983.
He was a member of Tuxis Sunday school class, the AARP, TOHS, Chamber
of Commerce, Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Nardin Grange.
Surviving are his
wife, Lura, of the home; one daughter. Pauline Fauchier of Ponca City;
one son, Arthur McGrew of Tulsa; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by three sisters, Cindy McInturff, Eva Vandever and Blanche Cox;
Four brothers, Jimmy McGrew, Charley McGrew, Oscar McGrew and John McGrew.
A memorial fund has
been established to the Methodist Church. The funeral home will act as
custodian
