Vivian R. McDowell,
longtime Blackwell resident, died at 1pm Monday, July 12, in Blackwell
Regional Hospital. She was 83.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Thursday in the Blackwell IOOF
Cemetery with Rev. Bill Maxcy, chaplain at Blackwell Regional Hospital,
officiating.
There will be visitation on Thursday from 10 am until 1 pm at the First
Baptist Church. The casket will then be closed.
Mrs. McDowell was born Oct 28, 1909 in Iola, Kan. The daughter of Aplhard
and Louisa (McGuire) Culver. She had lived in Blackwell since 1915.
On Dec 6, 1926, she married Clifford McDowell in Newkirk and they continued
to reside in Blackwell after their marriage.
Mrs. McDowell was employed by the Plainsman Motel for several years. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church. For the past year, she had been
a resident of Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors are two daughters Shirley Harlan and Diane McDowell, both of
Blackwell, two grandsons, Bryan Lechtenberg, Cherry Point Air Station,
N.C. and David McMasters, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan; two great-granddaughters
and one great-grandson, and a sister, Christine Daley, Los Angeles, Calif.
Her husband, Clifford, preceded her in death in November 1989 and one
sister, Beulah Balthus, predeceased her.
Gene Adams Funeral Service of Bethany is in charge of arrangements.
The family will be at the home of Jerry and Shirley Harlan, 236 Stevens.
