rites Thursday
Clifford McDowell,
85, of Blackwell, died Monday afternoon in Blackwell Regional Hospital.
There will be a graveside service at 11 am Thursday in the Blackwell IOOF
Cemetery with Rev. Bill Maxey, Baptist minister and chaplain at Blackwell
Regional Hospital, officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of Hackler-Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. McDowell was born June 25, 1904, in LaHarpe, Kans., the son of George
and Mae (Sagerman) McDowell. He came to Blackwell in 1923 from Bartlesville
where he grew up.
On Dec. 6, 1926, he married Vivian Ruth Culver in Newkirk.
Mr. McDowell was employed at the Blackwell zinc smelter until 1942. He
also worked for the Ray Hamlin auto dealership and Arden Finch Service
Station. He had been a resident of Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home since
August 1986.
Survivors are his wife, Vivian, of the home; two daughter, Shirley Harlan
of Blackwell and Diane Lynn McDowell of Jacksonville, N.C.; two grandsons
and two great-granddaughters and one brother, Howard McDowell of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd McDowell.
The family will meet at the funeral home before the service at the cemetery.
