Leonard Earl McClung

Leonard Earl McClung, Ponca City resident, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was 72.

To celebrate his life a service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Leonard Earl McClung, the son of Alva Orlo and Juanita Pauline Coate McClung, was born July 24, 1935, in Arkansas City, Kan. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1954. He continued his education and his love for wrestling at Northern Oklahoma College and also OSU.

On Feb. 15, 1958, Leonard married Judith McClung in First Baptist Church in Ponca City. They remained in Ponca City, where they made their home. Leonard and Judy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Leonard worked for over 24 years at Mertz and was in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Leonard enjoyed watching sports, especially wrestling and football. He also loved gardening and spending time with his family. He enjoyed being with his grandkids most of all.

Leonard survived more than 10 years with pulmonary fibrosis. He lived his life without complaint and was a true example of courage and strength.

Leonard is greatly loved and will be missed in the lives of many.

Family members include his wife Judy, of the home; his mother, Juanita McClung of Ponca City; son, Vincent McClung and wife Lesa; grandchildren, Aimee McClung, Nissi McClung, Isaac McClung and Shalee McClung, all of Ponca City; and two brothers, Orlan R. McClung and wife Jeanne of Houston, Texas, and Ralph L. McClung and wife Emily of Ponca City; mother-in-law, Earline Mowdy of Ponca City; and brother-in-law Don Mowdy and wife Barbara of Citronelle, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his father Orlo and an infant sister, Velma.
