OBITUARY John Alson Miller
was born June 15, 1869 in Brown, County, Indiana, died Aug. 8, 1908. At
the time of his death he was living on his fathers farm near Avery Missouri.
He had come to visit with his parents and sisters. Mr. Miller in company
with his daughter, parents and other relatives had gone for an outing
down on the river near the Salt Fork and it was here where he accidentally
met his death by drowning. It is supposed that he was seized with cramps
as he could swim and was used to the water. His daughter, sisters and
mother saw him drown but were unable to render him any assistance, as
the water was about twelve feet deep where he sank. There were other men
in the water with him who barely escaped with their lives. He leaves a
wife and seven children, his father and mother, three sisters and one
brother, to mourn his sad departure. He had never publicly professed his
faith in Christ, and while this is a source of regret and grief on the
part of his parents and friends and Christian relatives, after all, they
have this consolation. God is just and holy and good. He never makes any
mistakes. He doeth all things well. A brief funeral service was held at
the Baptist church four miles south and one mile east of Blackwell, Monday
afternoon at four o’clock. After which his body was laid away in
the Blackwell cemetery. May God in Christ through the Holy Spirit comfort
the widow and orphans and protect and keep them in his prayer. - Sherman
Moore.
