IN MEMORIAM - James H. Lockwood

James H. Lockwood died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred H. Hoppe, in this city, Sunday morning of this week. Mr. Lockwood came here from Apalachicola, Fla., a short time ago and expected to make his home with his daughter, but the summons came from his Heavenly home and he answered the call. The funeral was from the house Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. Woodward, of the Methodist church, and attended by many friends of the family. The interment was in Odd Fellows cemetery south of the city. Mr. Lockwood was born in New York City, July 4, 1828, and early in life moved to Canada, where he later married Harriet Wickwire. Of the union two children, Mrs. Hoppe and W.A. Lockwood, of St. Louis, survive. His good wife died in Georgia in 1862 and in 1867 he moved to Missouri, and in 1875 he was married to Helen Corey, who died in Florida, May 11, 1904. Mr. Lockwood was a refined and cultured christian gentleman and the entire community joins in sympathy to Mrs. Hoppe in her bebreavement.

JAMES H. LOCKWOOD’S DEATH

James H. Lockwood, the venerable father of Mrs. Fred Hoppe, died Sunday morning at the residence of his son-in-law on north Main street, in this city. Mr. Lockwood arrived from Florida, some two weeks ago. He had been ailing for some time before he came to Blackwell. The cause of his death was old age and general debility as he was seventy-six years old. His funeral will take place at the residence of Fred H. Hoppe, at 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. W. E. Woodward will conduct the services. The remains will be buried in Odd Fellows cemetery.

The funeral of James H. Lockwood, the father of Mrs. Fred H. Hoppe, took place from the residence of Mr. Hoppe this afternoon at three o’clock. Rev. W. E. Woodward had charge of the funeral services. The remains were buried in Odd Fellows cemetery.
