Lloyd
Winston LeBaron, Ponca City resident and third of five children, was born
Jan. 1, 1919, in Owasso to Loye and Kathryn Lyons LeBaron.
Lloyd's childhood was spent around the Keystone area where he attended
public schools in Keystone and Fairfax, graduating from Fairfax High School
with the class of 1937.
He was baptized into Christ Jan. 25, 1942, in Pawhuska.
Lloyd worked in the oil fields for Continental Oil Company and also joined
the National Guard. His unit was activated into the 45th Division, 171st
Field Artillery Battalion serving as liaison sergeant when it became evident
that the United States would enter World War II. Lloyd landed in Europe
at Anzio and fought with his unit in the battles of Sicily, Naples-Foggia,
Rome-Arno, Southern France, Central Europe and Rhineland. He was awarded
the American Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and
EAME with six Bronze Stars. He returned home after receiving his honorable
discharge from the Army June 24, 1945, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Lloyd moved to Ponca City and went to work for Continental in the refinery,
first as a painter, then as a compressor repairman. On June 21, 1948,
Lloyd was married to Raymona Mae Potts at First Christian Church in Ponca
City. Lloyd and Raymona joined Woodlands Christian Church in 1958, where
Lloyd held various positions of leadership in the congregation over the
years. Lloyd continued working for Continental until his retirement in
1980.
Lloyd loved sports of all kinds, particularly St. Louis Cardinal baseball,
all University of Oklahoma Sooner sports, and all Ponca City Wildcat sports.
He could be seen at nearly every home game in Ponca City. He was given
a Wildcat coach's hat for his loyal attendance. He also was an avid fisherman,
golfer, horseshoe pitcher and bowler. Lloyd and Raymona enjoyed playing
bridge with family friends, pitching horseshoes as members of the Oklahoma
Horseshoe Pitchers Association and bowling where they belonged to various
leagues. They also enjoyed long walks around Lake Ponca. Lloyd was also
a ceaseless tinkerer "out in the garage." He was a member of
the VFW.
Lloyd was hospitalized Oct. 30, 2007, with complications from congestive
heart failure and kidney failure. Upon release from Ponca City Medical
Center Nov. 9, 2007, he entered Shawn Manor Skilled Nursing and lived
there until his death Nov. 25, 2007, at the age of 88 years, 10 months,
and 24 days.
He was preceded in death by his wife Raymona on June 10, 2005; his parents;
both sisters Audrey and Eleanor; and both brothers Donald and Bruce.
Lloyd leaves to remember him one son and his wife, Jerold and Mellanie
LeBaron of Newkirk, and their children Keith of Norman, Philip of Tonkawa,
Brian and Rachel of Newkirk; one daughter, Darla LeBaron of Ponca City,
her son and his wife Nathan and Cammie Caudill, and their daughter Natalie
of Ponca City, Darla's daughter and her husband Nicole Caudill and Ritchie
Golay, and their children Cole, Korie and Zeth, all of Tulsa, Darla's
son Robert "Robbie" Jones of Ponca City; and numerous cousins,
nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of
Trout Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Krueger, pastor, officiating. Burial
will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
