Steve Kitchen, resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at his home. He was 61. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Harden presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Steve was born May 23, 1945, in Seminole, the son of Melvin Francis Kitchen and Ruby Iona Smith Kitchen. He was a 1963 graduate of Ponca City High School. He entered the United States Navy on Dec. 12, 1963, serving in Norfolk, Va., and Bethesda Naval Station, Md. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on Sept. 11, 1967. He was married to Sherry A. Reed on June 11, 1999. He was employed in earlier years in the family business with his father, the Triple K Manufacturing Company of Moundridge, Kan. He also had worked at various times as a United States customs agent, sky marshall, border patrol agent, private investigator and, most recently, a car salesman. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion. His enjoyments included working on cars and motorcycles, and he also enjoyed cooking. He is survived by his wife, Sherry of the home; three sons, Donnie Kitchen and wife Sherry of Sand Springs, Shawn Kitchen and wife Susan of Broken Arrow and Todd Kitchen and wife Christy also of Broken Arrow; three stepchildren, Andrea Rains and husband Shan of Stillwater; Alice Dwyer and husband Ron of Guthrie, and Brad Dolezal and wife Amy of Perry; a sister, Sherry Potter of Ponca City; mother-in-law, Violet Reed of Ponca City; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary casket bearers will be Tim Wehrle, DeWayne Lindsey, Derryl Reed, Roscoe Reed, Maj. Larry Del Harrison II and Ben Harrison.
