KAVANAUGH
THE VICTIM OF THE DRUNKEN COWBOY AT KAW CITY.
Charles Kavanaugh,
the man who was shot at Kaw City a week ago Monday evening, by Bud Wells,
died Last Monday night. The shooting occurred in the afternoon after Bud
Wells, a cowboy, had loaded up on whiskey and was taking the town.
Wells was riding his pony up and down the street firing off his revolver,
when he saw Clyde Proctor, with whom he had a trouble sometime before
, and took a shot at him. The shot struck Kavanaugh in the abdomen and
passed entirely through his body. He was apparently on the road to recovery,
when he took a wrong turn for the worse, and died.
Wells, after the shooting, made his escape into the Kaw country and has
not yet been captured.
Kavanaugh’s father and other relatives live east of Arkansas City,
near Vinton. [This article ran in The Leader - Peckham]
