HORTSMAN – Died, June 12, 1907, at 5 p.m. at his home in the eastern edge of Blackwell, F. W. Horstmen aged about 69 years. Funeral Saturday at 10am, at M. E. church, sermon by pastor and interment in odd fellows cemetery. Uncle Billy, was well known in Blackwell, having peddled garden truck and fruit about the past dozen years. Had about ten acre of ground in the old townsite of Parker, just across the river, having obtained it. When the city was first planted he was a cripple, as the result of a disease when a small child, but was usually of a cheerful disposition and had many friends. His wife died some years ago, and his brother Charles until three years ago, since which time, Uncle Billy has been living alone. He had one son, W. F. whose home is at burger, Mo., and who will arrive Saturday morning to attend the funeral and settle his fathers estate, the property all being left to him. Capt. J. W. Hamilton and other pioneers of that neighborhood have been taking care of the old man, who was almost helpless the last few months. A coincidence in this case is the fact, Uncle Billy, will be buried in the same grave that was dug for the remains of his brother, Charles, but was not used because at the last moment the body was ordered shipped to Missouri. |
