Lewis Levere Helsel

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Lewis Levere Helsel, resident of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in Arkansas City. He was 91.

The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery.

Lewis Levere Helsel was born Nov. 9, 1914, to Franklin Samuel Helsel and Mary Mae Kindred Helsel in Meade County, Kan.

On May 1, 1937, he married Alice E. Sifferd in Newkirk, and the couple made their home in different communities of Oklahoma. He worked in various churches and also worked at Kanotex, which later became Apco and Total Petroleum in Arkansas City.

Survivors include his four daughters, Sharon Hasselbring of Newkirk, Andrea Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Marcia Shrope and Charlene Kester, both of Arkansas City; brother, Ralph Helsel of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Juanita Love of Sublette, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Raymond Helsel, Wesley Helsel, Frank Helsel and Everette Helsel.
