HAYTER-At the home of L. C. Moore in this city, Friday, Feb. 24, at 6
o’clock, occurred the death of Wiliam Hayter, aged 91 years, 6 months
and 20 days. Mr. Hayter was born in Tennessee, Aug. 4th, 1813. at nineteen
years of age he moved to Clay county, Missouri, in which he made his home
for a number of years. He then moved to Clarksdale, where he had made
his home ever since until last fall, when he came to Blackwell to spend
the winter with his granddaughter, Mrs. Moore, at whose home he died.
In 1836 he was married to Louisa Means who died in 1891. Ten children
were born to them, six girls and four boys, all of whom survive him. Three
of them, Mrs. Brown of this city, Mrs. Bowen of Geary, Okla., and Mrs.
Todd of New Franklin, Mo., were present at his bedside during his last
hours. At twenty years of age Mr. Hayter united with the Cumberland Presbyterian
church, in which he has been an earnest worker to the present time. For
forty six years he was an elder and was well known in the gatherings of
his church throughout that part of the state. His death has been the crowning
of a long and useful life.
The many friends of the family extend to them their heartfelt sympathy
in their sad affiction. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian
church at 3 o’clock this afternoon, the sermon being preached by
the pastor, Rev. Thos. F. Barrier, and appropriate remarks were made by
Rev. Woodward and Edmonds. The remains were shipped to Clarksdale, Mo.,
