Joel Hatten, Veteran of Civil War, Is Dead

Joel Hatten, 85, Civil war veteran, died at 11:40 o’clock Tuesday night at the home of his son, A. D. Hatten, 609 North Palm street, following an illness of about six months. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon.

He has been a resident of Ponca City for the past 20 years. Since the death of his wife, about a year ago, he has made his home with his son, Frank Hatten, until a few weeks ago when he moved to the home of A. D. Hatten.

Hatten was born in West Virginia and served during the entire Civil war with the West Virginia regiment, company A. He moved from West Virginia to Indiana, living in Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas before coming to Oklahoma, about 20 years ago.

He is survived by seven sons: A. D. Hatten, Ponca City; Al Hatten, Shattuck; Frank Hatten, Gore, Okla.; Henry Hatten, Denver, Colo.; Joe Hatten, Ponca City; Chester Hatten, Arkansas City, and Roscoe Hatten, Ponca City; one daughter, Mrs. Clara Rice, Denver, Colo., and one brother, W. C. Hatten, Marshal county, Kan.

Six grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

The body is in the charge of the Gill funeral home.
