J.A. Hack, 74 years
old of 603 West College avenue, one of the pioneer residents of northern
Oklahoma who came to Blackwell about twenty years ago, died at his residence
at one o’clock, Friday morning, Jan. 1, 1918. He made a trip to
his ranch southwest of the city Friday, Jan 4, returning the next day.
He contracted a severe cold while making the journey and took to his bed
which he did not leave. A high fever developed and when it was broken
up it is said that he gradually grew weaker and was unable to rally as
a result. No arrangements as yet have been made for the funeral pending
the arrival of the only child, a married daughter who lives in Idaho,
who has been notified of her father’s death. Mr. Hack took an active
interest in municipal affairs and was candidate for the nomination for
mayor on the Republican ticket at the primary last spring. He was the
owner of the Bird’s Nest ranch that comprised several hundred acres
of fine pasture land, southwest of Tonkawa. Considerable of his time early
last spring and summer was taken up in the planning of improvements for
a large and modern summer resort there, which if they had assumed definite
shape would have resulted in a resort that would have been a credit to
the very best in the southwest. Mr. Hack was a consistent member of the
Presbyterian church and was a regular attendant at the Sunday services
when his health permitted. The funeral probably will be conducted by the
pastor, Rev. F. J. Stowe. A widow and a married daughter in Idaho are
the survivors. |
