Ruby Iness Goodson

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Ruby Iness Goodson, resident of Arkansas City, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit. She was 94.

The funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Newman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City, Kan. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Thursday 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Ruby was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Nowata, the 12th child of Lorenzo and Mary Ellen Vergason McDaniel. She married William H. Goodson on April 12, 1930, in Ponca City. The couple made their home in Newkirk before moving to Arkansas City in 1947.

She was employed as a receptionist for the Newkirk Cleaners and the Ark Cleaners of Arkansas City. After her husband's death in 1956, Ruby began working for the Arkansas City Memorial Hospital as a dietary aid. She retired after 30 years of service. She was an avid Bible teacher and served as a lay minister for several churches in Newkirk, Arkansas City, and Geuda Springs, Kan. She attended the First Assembly of God Church of Arkansas City.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Goodson and wife Wanda of LaPlace, La., and Jerry Goodson and wife DeeAnn of Arkansas City; five daughters, Esther Griffin of Ponca City, Gloria Hull and husband Vern of Arkansas City, Joyce Nance and husband Carl of Dodge City, Kan., Judy Ballinger and husband James of Las Cruces, N.M., and Vickie Murray and husband Barry of Shalimar, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; several nieces; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and all of her brothers and sisters.
