Edythe L Gieseker Edythe L. Gieseker, Ponca City resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in Bartlesville after an extended illness at the age of 74. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Northeast Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Nigh, minister of Northeast Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Edy was born on June 22, 1933, in Madison, Neb., to the late Cecil Ward Conger and the late Nellie Timm Conger. She attended elementary school through high school in Madison, Neb., and graduated from Granger High School in Granger, Wash. After high school graduation Edy moved to Lincoln, Neb., where she met and married Lyle Eugene Gieseker on Sept. 19, 1952. They made their first home in Lincoln, Neb., and then moved to Kansas City, Kan., and finally Ponca City in 1965. Edy was a homemaker until her children were raised and then worked for several years in the accounting department at Conoco Inc. Edy was an active member of Northeast Baptist Church where she filled various committee posts, served as music secretary, enjoyed singing in the choir and playing handbells. In her spare time Edy loved to travel, garden, spend time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters Carol Whiting and husband Dennis of Bartlesville, and Nancy Horner and husband David of Vicksburg, Miss.; four grandchildren, Stephen Whiting, Michelle Whiting, Daniel Horner and William Horner; one sister, Frances Bevelhimer; one brother, Ralph "Joe" Conger; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle; three sisters, Mildred Ekstrand, Lorraine Conger, Rosalie Robels. Casketbearers will be Stan Hinshaw, Al Peck, John Luton, Don Wilkerson, Joe Hoyle, and Lee Bennett. Honorary casketbearers are the Men of the Adult 6 Sunday School Class of Northeast Baptist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 Pecan, Ponca City, OK 74604 or to the American Cancer Society. |
