Walter Clyde Frye NEWKIRK — Walter Clyde Frye, longtime Newkirk resident, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in Ponca City Nursing Center. He was 82. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Grace Tabernacle of Praise in Ponca City with the Rev. Bill Mash officiating. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Walter Clyde Frye was born Dec. 10, 1923 in Topeka, Kan. He grew up and received his education in Topeka and graduated from high school there. After graduation he entered into active service with the United States Army, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After receiving his discharge, he went to Detroit where he worked in his trade of carpentry and welding. On Nov. 19, 1971, he married Constance Josephine Kawa in Mount Plymouth, Mich. They lived in Detroit, moving later to California. In 1981 they moved to Newkirk, and he was employed with Lo-Mar Manufacturing, making high pressure sprayers. In 2002 he moved to Ponca City Nursing Home. While in Newkirk he was a member of Calvary Temple and then attended Grace Tabernacle of Praise in Ponca City. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, watching TV, bingo and dominos. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Fred Frye andTimothy Frye, both of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Kenneth Frye of Detroit and Bill Frye of Montrose, Colo.; one sister, Joan Smith of Detroit, Mich.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather.
