Mary Fox’s Rites Wednesday
Pioneer Kay Woman Died Sunday Following Short Illiness
Newkirk, Feb 12—Mrs.
Mary Fox 61 Newkirk resident for several years died Sunday morning at
the Ponca City hospital, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday after at 2:30 o’clock at
the Christian church and burial will be in the Newkirk cemetery under
the direction of the Weber Funeral home.
Mrs. Fox is survived by three daughter, Mrs. Margaret Harsh of Canton,
Kans. Mrs. Fern Bain of Uncas and Mrs. Pearl Nash of Uncas and Mrs. Pearl
Nash of Ponca City and one son William J Fox of Los Angeles, Calif.
She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Claycamp of Texas, Mrs. Lizzie Hatch
of Ramona, Okla. And Mrs. Annie Bruce of Blackwell, and two brothers,
Ed Gildhouse of Newkirk and Frank Gildhouse of Blackwell.
Mrs. Fox who was born in Cowley county, Kansas, May 20, 1878, came to
Kay county at the opening of the Cherokee Outlet residing with her parents
on a farm east of Blackwell.
She was married to William James Fox in 1905 and the couple moved to Newkirk
the same year. He died here August 27, 1928.
Mrs. Fox became ill Thursday. She was taken to the Ponca City hospital
Saturday afternoon and underwent an operation there. He condition withstood
the operation, but her heart weakened, causing her death Sunday about
4 am.
He son William James Fox arrived Monday noon from Los Angeles. He left
soon after receiving word of his mother’s death.
