Joy Marie Fair
Joy Marie Fair, resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 18, 2010, at her home. She was 84 years of age.
Joy was born May 29, 1926, in Lequire, Okla., the daughter of Sam Eaton and Ruby Walls Eaton. She received her early education in the Roosevelt School in Ponca City and the Excelsior School Northeast of Ponca City. She was married to Delbert Fair on Aug. 16, 1942, at the Prairie Chapel Church Northwest of Ponca City. The couple made their first home in Seattle, Wash., where Joy was employed at a 5-Star Restaurant and Men's Club. The couple also had lived in Tucson, Ariz., Albuquerque, N.M., Duncan and Stillwater, Okla., before returning to Ponca City 1954.
Joy was a homemaker that especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved to play card games, dominos and other games. She enjoyed flowers, eating out and her church activities. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1962 and was a member of the Voyagers Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women's Group and the Stephens Ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert, of the home; six children, Delbert W. Fair Jr. and wife, Beverly, Ponca City, Diana K. Foy, Ponca City, Sherry Marie Williams and husband, Gilson, Pawhuska, Debby A. Kelley, Tonkawa, Kevin Z. Fair and wife, Patricia, Ponca City, and Nathan John Fair and wife, Dawn, Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Charlene Vap and husband, Jerry, Ponca City and one brother, Edmond Eaton of Lequire, Okla.; 21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and several other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Nate Godberson and step-mother, Dorothy Godberson; a brother, Charles Ray Godberson; son-in-law, Roy Steve Kelley; several in-laws that included Wanda Bennett, Willard Fair, Iona Barnett and Ada Honeycutt.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Crone-Sheldon presiding. Interment will follow at the Newkirk Cemetery with a final grave dedication to be given by her son, Kevin. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Steve Kelley Jr., Charles Kilpatrick, Ted Foy, James Ryan Ledbetter, Delbert William Fair and Taylor Fair. Honorary casket bearers will be Matthew Fair, Jeffery Koch, Cameron Fair and Tyler Knight.
