Richmond Ebert Obit
Joseph Richmond Ebert, eldest child of Martin L Ebert and Amanda Swain Ebert, was born at High Point, N.C., April 15, 1865, and passed away at his home in Blackwell, Okla., June 23, 1955, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 5 days. At 4 years of age he came with his parents to Oregon, Mo. where he grew to manhood. He became a farmer in Brown County, Kansas. He was married to May Belle Braly in Brown County, Kansas Sept 12, 1887. He was a member of the Baptist church for more than 70 years. At the opening of the Chrokee Strip, he made the race from Hunnewell, Kans., and staked a claim 20 miles northwest of Blackwell. He farmed extensively, raising fine livestock until 1913 when he went into the real estate business and a general merchandise store in Caldwell, Kans. He moved to Blackwell in 1917. During the first world war he served his country as a mule buyer for the U.S. government. He bought and shipped many trainloads of mules from ranches and farms throughout the Unitd States, accompanying them to various army camps in the East. After the war he held oil and gas interest in Oklahoma and Kansas until the time of his retirement. He and his wife observed their 65th wedding anniversary three weeks prior to her death on Oct 6, 1952. Two sons, Martin and Eldridge, and two daughters, Nelle and Minnie, preceded him in death. Survivors include five daughters, Deane Richardson, Nannie Meryl Newkirk, Veryl Looker, Pauline Mathews and Adah Brown and three sons, Glen, Ola and Edison. Also surviving are two sisters, Eliza Buntz of Oregon, Mo. and Myrtle Eastwood, Fort Scott, Kans; 37 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 27 at the First Baptist church with Dr. Harry m. Roark officiating. Burial was in the IOOF cemetery under the directions of Roberts and Sons. |
