Maxcene Deloris Duroy

Maxcene Deloris Duroy, lifelong Ponca City resident, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Shawn Manor. She was 81.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel with Richard Robinson, deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John Glaser, Brian Glaser, Ron Evans and Michael Grimes.

Maxcene Deloris Duroy was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Ponca City, the daughter of Arley H. and Minnie Cooper Cunningham. She graduated from Ponca City schools and then attended Oklahoma State University.

Her first job was at the Kress Store selling notions. During World War II, she worked at the Ration Board at DAR School. Maxcene then began a career as a bookkeeper working for George Self Butane and later for Joe Reagan Insurance Co. She was employed many years as the bookkeeper for Higdon Florist.

After retiring, Maxcene was active with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program where she was recognized as volunteer of the month. As a volunteer, she enjoyed reading to the children at a child development program. Through JTPA, she volunteered in the Ponca City Senior High School office where she became close friends with the staff. Maxcene was a member of Albright United Methodist Church.

Maxcene is survived by her daughter, Kandy Glaser; grandson, John Glaser; granddaughter, Christy Glaser; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Kyle Glaser, all of Albuquerque, N.M. Survivors also include a brother, LeRoy Cunningham of Odgen, Utah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Don Cunningham.
