Walter J. DuVal, Ponca City resident, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at
Shawn Manor Nursing Home. He was 73.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday,
June 16, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. J.D.
Ward, Pastor, officiating.
Walter was born on August 1, 1929, in Eldorado, Ark., the son of John
and Flora (Barnes) DuVal. Walter graduated from Texarkana High School
then attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1956. He served his
country in the United States Navy as a meteorologist aboard the U.S.S.
Whiting during the Korean Conflict. On June 25, 1959, Walter married Virginia
Smith in Beaumont, Texas. They made their home in Beaumont for one year
before moving to Sunnyvale, Calif., living there until moving to Ponca
City in 1962, where he was employed with Conoco as a telecommunications
consultant. Walter retired from Conoco in 1990. He loved philosophy, art,
movies, plays, traveling, and music.
He is survived by his wife Virginia "Ginger" of the home; two
sons, David DuVal of Tulsa, and Kenneth DuVal of Manhattan, NY; one daughter,
Nancy Brown and husband Dr. Hal Brown of Ponca City; two grandchildren,
Ryan DuVal of Tulsa and Autumn Brown of Ponca City; one niece, Laurie
DuVal; and one nephew, Chris Childers; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph DuVal.
Honorary casket bearers will be the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class.
