DENNING
– A telegram received here at four o’clock, Friday evening,
announced that Forrest Denning had died at Allgood, Tenn. His father and
mother, Mr. And Mrs. G. H. Scoles, departed Friday morning to that place,
but unfortunately were unable to get there before his death.
DENNING – Forrest Wayne Denning was accidentally killed on the Overton
county railroad in Tennessee, between Allgood and Livingston. He was employed
as a brakeman on the railroad and it was his duty every evening about
9 o’clock to go around a sharp curve between the two towns and flag
a train that came in at that hour. Last Thursday evening he went out at
the usual hour and failed to return. His cousin, Ray Crow, son of C. P.
Crow of this city, who is a civil engineer located at Allgood, with others,
went in search of him and found him lying by the track badly injured and
his lantern smashed, as if he had been struck by the train and thrown
aside. He was unconscious and died in a short time without being able
to tell how the accident happened. Forrest Denning was about 21 years
old and was the son of Mrs. G. H. Scoles of this city, who with her husband,
went to Allgood upon being notified, and returned yesterday with the body.
He was a brother of Clyde Denning, who recently moved from this city to
Los Angeles, Calif., and is now in a hospital there with an attack of
appendicitis. The funeral services were held at 10:30 yesterday at the
home of his mother, Rev. Isom Roberts officiating, and the remains will
be taken to Lamont for interment.
