A. W. Davis Died Monday A. M.
After an illness of seven months A. W. Davis passed away Monday morning,
June 29, 1901. A few hours before he died he listened to the reading of
the fourteenth chapter of St. John, and said, “there is so much
comfort in every verse of the chapter,” soon after he went to sleep
to awaken in heaven. He was born in New York State. Dec 29, 1837, moved
to Michigan with his parents when about four years of age, and remained
there until grown to manhood. He lived several years in Ottawa, Ill. Cavalry
Volunteers. At the close of the war, he went back to Illinois sick and
broken down in health, which he never regained, although able to be about
most of the time. He was married in 1868 to Mary Louise Whitlock, and
he moved from Illinois to St. Joseph, Mo., and from there to Davis City,
Ia. Where he remained until 1893. His wife died in 1889, and he was married
to Jeenie A. Sweet, March 16th 1890. He was converted early in life, joined
the M. E. church, and was a faithful member, giving generously. He died
as he had lived, fully trusting in Jesus. He leaves a wife and five children
who mourn his death but with a hope of future reunion
